Courtney Imbert (N Tonawanda)

“We started a bathroom renovation in December 2015. Unfortunately, we were burned by an incompetent contractor. We had to fire them because they did substandard work. We immediately set out to find a new contractor to finish the job. We quickly learned there were a few factors that made finishing the bath remodel a challenge:

– Because the bathroom had been demolished and a small amount of rebuild was already done, the new contractor would start work on the renovation partway through. This can be difficult because it’s hard to get the “big picture” and figure out what is yet to be done, and most contractors want start-to-finish control over the process.

– Because the city building inspector had been involved, the inspector was bound to keep an eagle eye on whoever we hired and make sure things were done to the letter.

– Any contractor ran the risk that we, as wronged customers, might be extra demanding or negative. That would be a good assumption in our case. I had a 7 page long list of requirements for the bathroom, along with specific demands for the way the contract was written – I just couldn’t afford any more delays or failures on this project.

– Our house is 130 years old, with all the structural / plumbing / electrical challenges that come with it. Not many contractors have the experience or skill to work on that – old homes never have right angles, they have strange historical plumbing and heating, and can be difficult to bring up to code while maintaining the integrity and continuity of the original style. There is almost always an unexpected problem when doing work in an old home.

– We had a hard deadline due to expecting a baby, and the deadline was looming closer because of the time resolving things with the previous contractor.

Most contractors would cringe at this combination of factors. In fact, several simply refused to even give us a quote. While we waited, we hired an architect to help us plan the layout, and they recommended Russell Renovations. We gave him a call.

Tim was unfazed by the challenges he was facing in taking on this job. He did us a huge favor by working us in to his existing schedule so we could have a working bathroom by the time our new family member arrived. He was always 100% professional and positive, and we felt confident hiring him.”

“Tim’s passion for renovation is clear. He told us he is harder on himself than we could possibly be, and he was totally right. He was exacting in everything he worked on. I would text or email him with concerns and he would address them the same day.  He made sure everything was done start to finish, even hanging up the shower curtain at the end. It was obvious how much pride he takes in his work, the work of his subcontractors, and how much he cares about helping people achieve their dream homes. There were a few occasions where I made last-minute changes to the design, and prefaced this with “I know this is outside the scope of my original request, so if you do not want to accommodate this, please feel free to say no.” Wherever he could, he was flexible on his work without complaint. Extremely respectful and pleasant to work with.

He is an excellent project planner and willing to go the extra mile to stay on schedule, even in the face of unexpected delays. He is highly organized and responsive. It is pretty rare to find residential contractors with this combination of project management expertise, construction skills, customer service, and design. He has a fairly long backlog of work right now, but that is because the work is worth the wait.

I will not lie, this kind of skill and dedication costs money. Tim’s quote was the highest of the estimates we got from contractors. But I still give it a high grade. We anticipate that we will have paid for this work ONCE, because it will not need to be redone or fixed. He is meticulous and professional about accurately estimating the cost of the work and materials. It is expensive. But in my opinion, if you value quality work, hiring Russell Renovations is worth both the wait and the cost.

I am thrilled with the renovation. It was almost worth the stress of the bad contractor to find such a good one. If he could handle our nightmare bathroom renovation, I’m pretty sure he can do anything. He saved our project. Thank you Tim, Seth, and everybody who made our project happen. <3″

“My wife and I have been thinking about finishing our basement for some time.  When we decided to get the job done we were very careful in the selection process for a contractor.  After doing an extensive search, we decided to call Russell Renovations WNY, Inc. for an estimate.  I called Tim (the owner) and left him a message to call me back.  Not only did he promptly call me back, but he was willing to spend as much time as possible answer some general questions I had.  We scheduled an estimate and again, he was right on time.   Tim did a detailed  inspection of our basement, listened to all of our wish list items.  He was willing to counter with his own ideas and when he left, we were extremely excited.  Within a short time frame Tim returned to us with an estimate, a detailed summary of the job, price, time frame, and options that we had discussed.  He did not forget a thing.  Every single detail or option we mentioned he remembered.  Once we decided to hire Russell Renovations Tim gave us a starting date.  Tim also gave us detailed instructions on when and where to pick out our materials for the job, we did not run into one issue during this process.

Russell Renovations was able to start the work a week early, so again there was no waiting for them.  Eight AM sharp everyday the crew arrived.  Tim, his son Seth and one other employee where there everyday.  They took care to respect my home, family and even my dog!  Everyday when they left work, they cleaned, it was like they were not there!  The work moved along fast and Tim was there to answer questions every step of the way.  They work hard too, a few nights Seth stayed extra late (he asked of course) to ensure that the job was done right!

Tim and his wife Anna even came on Saturdays to paint the basement for us!  Talk about dedication and love for what you do.  My wife and I cannot be more pleased with the job that was done.  The attention to detail was amazing.  When we imagined getting our basement finished, Tim and his team took it to a whole other level.    The attention to detail was amazing.  We will and have already recommended Russell Renovations to our friends and family.  We are looking forward to the next project with Russell Renovations!”

Mike Kohrer (Clarence)

“I gave Tim a directive that my garage man-door and metal basement doors were to be removed and the walls re-built as if the doors were never there in the first place. Needless to say, the task was accomplished. The bay window underside was secured with vinyl and I won’t have to worry about the wind exposing that area again. I can’t say enough about the finishing work in the garage; the drywall and paint work is fantastic. The area with the utility penetrations was sealed with foam insulation and the air leakage and R-value should show a significant improvement this winter.”

Christina Boland (Cheektowaga)

” If you are reading this you need to look no further!!! I can’t say enough about Russell Renovations!! Their professionalism, punctuality and craftsmanship are impeccable!!!!! I had them finish my parents basement add a bathroom, remove popcorn ceiling and paint the entire house. Can’t wait to have them do some work on my home!!!! At one point I even had joked around that they seemed to good to be true!! After reading all of their reviews I had ask Tim if he had wrote them himself because they were all outstanding!!! But after working with them I quickly realized they are a dream come true!! If you have ever worked with contractors you know what a nightmare they can be. My Parents and myself could not be any happier with their work, so again look no further they are the one to hire!!!! “

Ray Nowak Sr (Amherst)

” Tim is an outstanding professional that does quality work and goes above and beyond to ensure that his customers are satisfied with the results.  Tim and his crew were a pleasure to work with, were always punctual, and did a beautiful job on our kitchen updates. We highly recommend him and plan to use him again for all of our future home projects.”

Pam Mills (Tonawanda)

“The owner, Tim Russell, oversaw and was involved in practically every single step of this project. There aren’t nearly enough positive words to articulate the job that was done for us. Tim and his crew went above and beyond to get everything done and to utilize the time and money spent in the most efficient way possible. Integrity is the word that comes to mind when my family speaks of Tim Russell and the work that was done for us. Instead of seeing dollar signs, we were seen as people in need of trusted help and expertise in an area in which we were not well versed. Tim found innovative ways to stretch the budget we had to work with to encompass even more work to get done than we first anticipated. At the end of each day, Tim’s crew picked up every last piece of garbage or mess that was created that day. We were amazed at how immaculate work areas were kept and how friendly, polite, and professional everyone was. We have a dog that isn’t always good at keeping to itself and Tim’s crew was so great with him. By the end of the project, everything that needed doing was done. Done really well, and on budget. I would hire Russell Renovations again in a heart beat. I have already suggested their services to a work colleague and a family member that are both in need of home renovations. If you are in need of quality work, fair pricing, and genuine professionalism to work on your home then you have found all that and more with Russell Renovations of WNY.”

Philip Russo (Grand Island)

” Quality service right from the beginning. This was our first time working with a contractor and I have to praise Tim and his crew for their patience and professionalism. We made many changes throughout the project even up to the last day and the Russell Renovations crew were always up to each new task.  They were very clean and made a point of cleaning up each day.  Tim’s estimate was fair and his product allotments were generous.  Our new home theater looks great and is exactly how we envisioned it!  We look forward to having the crew finish/remodel our guest bedroom in the future. “

Katherine Sumner (Wheatfield)

” This was my first experience doing a large project with a contractor and I can honestly say I will work with Russell Renovations as long as they are able to. I even joked that my husband will never lift a finger again. Their professionalism is above and beyond what I could have ever imagined. I found them through Angie’s list and am very pleased that I did.
From the very first meeting they were on time, professional, and very easy to work with. In fact, out of everyone I met with, Tim was the only contractor who was on time and didn’t have a reason to reschedule or cancel our initial meeting. I am very particular with who I allow to do work in my house, and after meeting with 10+ contractors I knew I had to work with Russell Renovations.
I was very impressed with the ease of communication and transparency. I had several ideas I found online and Tim worked with me closely to make them become reality. Everything was completed as I had requested in the time frame that was asked. While doing the work they were more than respectful to my family, friends and neighbors who had stopped by several times to admire the work.
The working conditions were very clean with absolutely no work left for me to do afterwards. There were no delays or unexpected circumstances. We are so pleased with the work and do not have any complaints or concerns. I would highly recommend Russell Renovations to anyone looking for high quality amazing work.”

Lisa Caprio (Elmwood)

“As I read the earlier posted reviews, I keep saying, “Yep, check, check, that’s right…”  That is to say that everything that has been written about Russell Renovations WNY Inc. is true to my experience as well.  What struck me most, however, was something less tangible.
To back up, I stumbled upon Tim simply by joining Angie’s List and throwing in a search term related to construction.  I had a unique, small project that needed expertise that I did not find among people that I knew.  Though Tim had never done such a project, he immediately contacted me back, said he had never done it, but was willing to explore it.  He answered SO many questions of mine, all via e-mail, day after day.  I was passionate about this project.  Patient and kind, Tim was excited for, and with, me.  I had no idea that he had completed a number of major projects; I just knew he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.
I’ll skip all the aforementioned accolades such as Tim’s ongoing communication, reliability, skill, etc.  I want to take a moment to share my first meeting with Tim.  My training includes studying relationships and behaviors, so I read people pretty well, and fairly quickly.  I felt immediately comfortable with him; I knew that he was right for the job with his serious, yet easy way. When he left, I not only felt confident, but I was once again “through the roof” excited.  He got it; he saw the vision I had in my head and was going to make it materialize.  And he did.  Exceedingly so.  Along the way, there were times when I would say, “Oh wait!  What about…?”  And Tim would say, “I already took care of that” or “That’s what I am here for.”  Equally impressive, if Tim couldn’t back something up, he would say so and not attempt to make something work, just because.
Since then we have moved on to another small, but equally thrilling project.  Again, new to Tim, new to me.  It is turning out
beautifully, with help from his son, Seth.  They work seamlessly together; the admiration and respect they have for one another is evident.  They laugh easily, and keep me entertained in the process.  And though I have not yet met Anna, early on she added her professional opinion via text through Tim; I appreciated her input and proceeded with her suggestion.
I have more ideas…lots of ideas!  Since I am dropping Tim’s name all over the place; I only hope that when I am ready to begin my next adventure, he and his esteemed crew will be available!  :)”

Cynthia Lofaso (Elma)

“What an awesome experience this has been!  It all started with Tim’s very thorough and detailed estimate.  I felt at ease right away, and was confident that Tim understood exactly what I wanted to accomplish. The end result is even better than I anticipated.  Tim, Anna and Seth have been wonderful to deal with – true craftsmen – very professional, prompt, knowledgeable, honest, neat and organized – they kept me in the loop every step of the way.  What’s really amazing is how quickly and efficiently they got the job done, making helpful suggestions, and overall making what could have been a daunting and overwhelming experience much easier, and fun, than I ever imagined it could be.  My basement was transformed from wasted/unusable space, to my favorite part of the house, just one month later – Incredible! ”

Lynne Ratajczak  (Lancaster)

“I used Russell Renovations WNY for a major renovation at my home last year. I had a 1200 SF above the garage addition added to the home. This addition was an estimated 4 month project that was completed on time by Tim Russell and his family. I provided the design and blueprints and Tim went from there. Tim was willing to do all of the work or partial which was a nice option to have for the project. In order to stay on time and keep within budget Tim and his family would work nights and weekends. I never dealt with such a hardworking group of people. Any issues or concerns were brought to my attention throughout the process and together we would work them out. My concerns were taken and not ignored. What was most impressive with Tim was that you can call him anytime and he stands behind his work. This was probably the biggest reason I was glad that I selected Russell Renovations WNY. Your home is the largest investment that you have and Tim made sure I was a part of it. The end result was beautiful and my family was very pleased. I would highly recommend Tim for any project that you may have big or small. Tim truly loves what he does and has the knowledge and experience to back it up.”

Natasha Cervantes  (Amherst)

“We met Tim as he was leaving his old employed to go out on his own. We have hired him for several projects and have always been happy with the results. Some of our projects are on his website. He did his due diligence when recommending products. There are probably cheaper contractors out there, but we believe they are reasonable and the work is excellent, and we would always go to him first for any new projects. Professional, punctual and trustworthy. He was gracious about working in almost 100 degree temps when our AC failed in the summer. Have no concerns about him, Anna or Seth working in our home even if we are not there, and that peace of mind is worth a lot. We are hoping to have them do several other projects in the future.”

Adrea Lynn  (Newfane)

“I emailed Tim and he got back to me the same day and scheduled an appointment. He arrived on time and it was obvious he understood what I was looking for. He uses an iPad which he takes pictures and writes all the information on.  He provided a professional quote through a computer. Most contractors will only mention a price and the others if they get back to you may write something down on paper that you might be able to read. Tim says he will only provide the quote through the computer to protect the customer and himself which I appreciated. They are busy because they are great people and are worth the wait. Very easy to get along with. I am extremely satisfied with the cabinetry which was built at my house due to the amount of room to get the pieces in my mudroom. They used biscuits in all the joints to ensure the strength of my cabinets and bench. Tim and his son Seth are truly the greatest team. Seth is very young but it is unbelievable how talented he is with his craft. I think he must have been taught by Tim at a very young age. They have company T-shirts and are very professional. I trusted them to come and go from my house even when I was not home. These are contractors you can trust with a key or garage code.”

Diane Alessandra  (Youngstown)

“We were very, very satisfied. Tim scheduled an estimate and promptly arrived. On the day we scheduled the work, he arrived on time and worked meticulously and quickly. The stairs turned out perfect. While this was a small job, you could tell that Tim takes pride in his work and pays attention to detail. We will definitely be contacting him again for other jobs, most likely bigger jobs!”

Ben Finkel  (Youngstown)

“I couldn’t be happier with the service that Russell Renovations provided.
To begin with, Tim came out to review my project and promptly returned a detailed and professional estimate.  The estimate included various options for items we had discussed and broke out the cost for each of those separate items.  He was happy to take my ideas and suggestions into account while also providing his own ideas when I asked for them.  His expertise and knowledge was pretty clear right from the get-go.
Tim was honest about his current workload and the lag time between when we signed the contract and his availability to start.  However once he committed to that timeframe he was prompt about starting when he said he would and finished in less time than he originally estimated.
Russell Renovations took a real interest in the quality of the products they used as well.  While offering me the choice to purchase high priced brand name products they also found and installed very high quality but less expensive windows and doors that look great and saved us a few dollars.  The care and attention to detail in this as well as the quality of work he did was very much appreciated!
They were also able to easily roll with a few changes that made mid-project, including running an ethernet line from my main house to the out-building.  It was no small project but they took it right on and didn’t let it derail the overall project timeline at all.
Lastly, Tim and his team were pleasurable and professional and courteous.  I was comfortable with them working at my house and will happily be hiring them again for my next project.”

Jeff and Katie Herzog  (Williamsville)

“Built a great 16×14 deck with a seamless fastener system. Was always punctual and professional. I would recommend Tim for any home improvement. Turned out better than expected and went above and beyond expectations. I will send my friends and family to him in the future. Tim and workers use best products and offer great service.”

Barb Brandel  (Clarence)

“The pocket door was very tricky (another vendor would not do it), and it turned out great.  It required removing and restoring walls and electricals and furnace thermostat.  Since the wall space was very limited it was necessary to construct 2 pocket doors and having them meet in the middle.  He supplied all exterior, interior, storm and pocket doors.  He and his son worked tirelessly and clean up was great.  I will definitely use him again.  Hopefully soon.  I want a bathroom remodel.”

Bob Simons  (Lewiston)

” I cannot speak highly enough of this contractor. Extremely trustworthy, detailed, a good sense for the aesthetic, always left the work site in good order. Worked hard and kept the project moving. I am thrilled with the final result. ”

“Tim was very thorough in explaining what was going to be done. I appreciated that he educated us on what was going to be done, what didnt, what he could guarantee and what he couldnt. My husband thought he did the work in remarkable time. Tim and Seth were always here until the job was finished. They do not jump around on different jobs which makes you feel comfortable knowing your job is important to them. They seem to not take any or little breaks during the day. They almost always worked until 5 pm or later which was just fine with us. Tim has a great sense of humor and is very easy to get along with. They kind of felt like family and it was kind of sad when the job ended.”

Mike and Marianne Messuro  (Clarence)

“Tim showed up on time for the estimate in early February and gave a quote on the date he said he would. He said he would give me a week to decide and if I went with him he would start on April 7 and finish by May. He met that deadline. He was flexible with changes and suggested some nice finishing touches that we hadn’t thought of. He Always was clear about costs of changes etc with written and detailed estimates. He kept the work area and home clean . The quality and craftsmanship were also very high. He treated our home as if it were his. It was refreshing to work with a organized and professional contractor who kept his word about costs and time frames while remaining flexibility. It’s clear Tim Seth and Anna really care about doing thing right for their customers. My wife and I highly recommend Russell Renovations”

Mike and Anna Tasner  (Wheatfield)

“Tim and his son Seth did an amazing job.  I couldn’t have asked for a better contractor.   I’ve used dozens of contractors over the years between my house and rental properties and I don’t think I’ve met anyone that comes anywhere close to the quality of work they displayed.  They worked their butts off to please my wife and I (and get the job done quickly), were more than pleasant to work with and overly accommodating.  They also did a ton of little extras that were not in the contract, but did so to help out, from hanging a TV for me to touching up little scratches left by the carpet guy.  I’m already looking at booking them early 2014 to do more work around my house.  Top notch A+++”
